New Delhi, July 13 (IANS) Many Indian companies are associated with American aircraft manufacturer Boeing's most advanced passenger jet -- the B-787 Dreamliner, a top companyn official with the company said Wednesday.
'Many Indian companies are associated in providing various components and services in this projects, which is the most advanced aircraft in the world,' Dinesh Keskar, president of Boeing India, told IANS in the aircraft's cockpit.
According to Keskar, the B-787 which landed in the national capital Wednesday has components, software and designing services from Indian companies like Tata Motor's Nagpur-based fully owned subsidiary TAL Manufacturing Solutions Limited, HCL, Wipro and Tata Consultancy Service (TCS).
'Tata's are providing the floorbeams for the airline, on which the seats are laid. HCL has provided with advance software and some designing work was done by TCS,' Keskar said.
Boeing and TAL Manufacturing Solutions entered into a manufacturing contact in 2008 for light weight floor beams made out of titanium and composite materials by using state-of-the-art technology.
Currently the company also buys parts for its other aircraft from Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. (HAL) and service from Infosys.
Till date, Air India and Jet Airways have placed an order for a total of 37 Dreamliners with Boeing.
The much talked about aircraft boasts of providing reduced operating costs in terms of maintenance, consume 20 percent less fuel and provide the airline with faster turnarounds, resulting in more flying hours.
The plane can fly up to 16,000 km non-stop, is suitable for long-haul routes like Mumbai-Sydney, Delhi-Tokyo, Delhi-New York or Delhi-Toronto.
The 787 Dreamliner is on its maiden visit to India, and landed in the national capital Wednesday. Air India is scheduled to get its first 787 Dreamliner by end 2011. The Indian national carrier will conduct three trial runs in the next two days.
Civil Aviation Minister Vayalar Ravi along with senior officials is expected to inspect the aircraft Thursday.
