India-Pakistan citizens to form human chain for peace
15 Jul 2011, 5:54 pm

New Delhi, July 15 (IANS) Even as the Mumbai serial blasts left some political parties pointing fingers at Pakistan, a group of people from both sides of the border will be joining hands at the memorial of Mahatma Gandhi in the national capital Saturday to promote peace.

Organised by civil society groups from India and Pakistan, nearly 200 people will form a human chain to promote solidarity and peace and condemn the blasts in Mumbai.

'We the citizens of India and Pakistan strongly condemn the inhuman and dastardly serial blasts in Mumbai on 13th July 2011 in which 21 innocent people were killed and over 140 injured,' a statement from the organisers said.

'The basic motive for this meet would be to promote communal harmony and to show solidarity towards those killed and injured in the attack,' Faisal Khan, member of National Alliance of People's Movement (NAPM), one of the organisers of the human chain told IANS.

'It is to show those terrorists who are the culprits of the blast that we have not lost our hopes yet,' said Khan.

'It is clear that these blasts are a well orchestrated heinous conspiracy to derail the resumption of the dialogue and peace process between India and Pakistan that was stalled following the terrorist attack in Mumbai in 2008,' he added.

According to NAPM member Shahdab Bashad, nearly 15 people from Pakistan are already in India for the human chain, while more are expected to come.

'So far a delegation of 15 people has arrived from Pakistan and we expect more to come tomorrow. The aim of this meet is to propagate peace, and to give tribute to the victims,' Bashad told IANS.

Fingers have been raised at Pakistan after serial blasts at three places in Mumbai left several dead and injured.
